Playing Table Installation. Think!Chinatown x ChaShaMa Pop-up Art Space, New York, NY. May 2018.

I use this unique tile set to lead mahjong playing workshops for guests of all ages and experience levels while facilitating conversations around Tagalog creation myths and Philippine colonial history.

Printing Table. Modified pinewood table with wool cushion blanket. By Cynthia Chen.

I record each game’s 14-tile winning hand. Winners then stamp printed records of their winning hands using an identical mahjong tileset made specifically for relief printmaking.

Printmaking Workshop Facilitation.

All winning hands join an ongoing print archive (consisting of over 125 “bills” to date). I serialize each print, and record the winner’s initials, date of play, and zip code.

Winning Hands. Archival dye stamped on paper, with gold foil, embossing, and pen. 125+ prints x 16 in x 6.25 in.
